Located in the rear of the shopping plaza, this is one of the city-wide network of Head Start programs run by Action for Boston Community Development. From their website: The citywide ABCD Head Start program is Boston’s primary source for a comprehensive, holistic, family intervention program for low-income, pre-school children and their families. All Head Start and Early Head Start children receive education, health, special education, dental, mental health, social, and nutritional services. Parents also have access to special programs, such as literacy and substance abuse prevention and treatment, and education and training opportunities that enable families to move into the economic mainstream.

Forest Hills was established in 1848 as a garden cemetery for the City of Roxbury. It is a wonderful place composing 250 acres of rolling land punctuated with ponds, trees and gardens. If neighboring Arnold Arboretum is too crowded, and/or you are a loner looking for quiet and greenery, go here. Both spots are a short walk from the Forest Hills T Stop. I often found Forest Hills Cemetery to be a quick escape to another world away from the city. Its much like Mount Auburn Cemetery in the historical landscaped cemetery category, but it's the more obscure, less famous, less endowed cousin. Still there is plenty of neat architecture, sculptures, art displays, famous graves, and spots waiting for you to discover them in this sprawling almost 300 acre cemetery. They also have events and concerts, so if you want to do something semi-social there visit their website or pick up a brochure. Forest Hills is still an active cemetery and plots are available.

MSPCC is one of the oldest child welfare agencies in the United States. Incorporated in April of 1878, MSPCC is a private, non-profit society dedicated to protecting and promoting the rights and well being of children and families. Prevention (of child abuse) is the Society's middle name and focus of its service interventions. This year MSPCC was been selected as one of the 24 official charities to participate in the running of the 112th Boston Marathon ® on Monday, April 21, 2008!
Proceeds raised by Team Protect Our Kids (T-POK) will help MSPCC provide child abuse and neglect prevention, mental health treatment, early intervention, and child development services to more than 30,000 children and families throughout the Commonwealth.
