Jackson Square
Jackson Square is the name of a T stop on the orange line but also a neighborhood of Jamaica Plain. Jackson is where Centre Street crosses Columbus Avenue. It was dealt a devastating blow in the later half of the 20th century when the proposed federal highway project for the Southwest Expressway cleared large parcels of land and the Plant Shoe Factory burned down. Leaving parts of the neighborhood looking more like a war zone than a place to live. Jackson Square is on the rebound, with a major development starting in 2008 and the commercial center anchored by Stop n Shop thriving.
