Stony Brook
This neighborhood takes its name from the actual Stony Brook - which used to run freely from Turtle Pond in Hyde Park down to the Charles River. Now the brook still exists but is in an underground culvert. The waterway led to the development of industries along it, particularly breweries which took advantage of its water. You still see that past in all the brick commercial buildings in this neighborhood - most now converted to housing or for more modern business uses.
